Our Story

The James Lloyd Murphy Foundation was established after our son was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the frontal lobe of his brain that was 3cm by 4 cm (the size of an egg) on November 1, 2024. He had brain surgery just five days later to remove the tumor and later that week was released from the hospital to a rehab center where he spent an additional two weeks.

When he went home from rehab, he had radiation, chemo, and optune therapy. Two months later, he was finally able to return to work while still receiving treatment. While he was off work, he had short-term disability but, unfortunately, that was not enough to cover the bills.
This is why we have established this foundation- with the aim of assisting families facing similar challenges. The donations that we receive will enable us to provide financial grants to patients, thereby helping them manage their expenses. We are a veteran-owned non-profit and our goal is to alleviate the financial burden on patients and their families.

Our Mission Statement

The James Lloyd Murphy Foundation for Families Impacted by Brain Tumors builds awareness and supports brain tumor patients and their families by awarding grants to help with expenses that are beyond their means, due to being off work for treatment. Some of the expenses included are mortgage/rent, utilities, car payments, and childcare. Our goal is to ease some of the financial burden that often adds to the stress of a brain tumor diagnosis and treatment. This allows patients and their caregivers to focus, with less distraction, on treatment and quality time with loved ones.

Tim Murphy, Founder/President

Hello, my name is Tim Murphy. I'm the father of James Lloyd Murphy, whom this foundation was named after. I have four amazing children and am married to my beautiful, wonderful wife, Stacey. I'm a retired staff sergeant and served almost 21 years in the army. For 18 months of that time, I was stationed in Iraq during Operation Iraq Freedom. I am currently employed with Mission Barbecue as a delivery driver and catering personel, and I also get the pleasure of driving a military "Deuce and a Half".

We started this foundation when James became ill in 2024 with a brain tumor in his frontal lobe that was roughly the size of an egg and sitting on the right side, pushing to the left. Six days later, he was in surgery having it removed by a wonderful team of doctors at the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was off for a few months and fell behind on his bills. Luckily, we were able to help him out. But seeing his struggle first-hand gave us the idea for creating this foundation, so that we could help others that might be in the same situation.

Stacey Murphy, Vice President/Secretary

My name is Stacey Murphy, and I have lived in Hobart, Indiana my whole life. I am married to my wonderful husband, Tim Murphy, and together we share a passion for giving back to others. Early in our relationship, we realized that helping people and supporting our community was something we both deeply cared about, and that common goal made us an even stronger team.

Like many people, there were times in our lives when we were not always able to give back the way we wanted to. But through hard work, perseverance, and many blessings, we now feel grateful for the life we have built together and want to help others as much as possible.

When Tim came to me with the idea of starting a nonprofit foundation in honor of James to help families and individuals facing difficult times, I immediately knew I wanted to help make that dream become a reality. After a lot of hard work and dedication, we were able to create our foundation, and we are excited and honored to continue giving back and making a positive impact in the lives of others.
